Signatures No Longer Required For EMV Chip-Card Transactions, But Still Supported
As of April, the four major card brands- American Express, Discover, Visa, and MasterCard- have eliminated the requirement for cardholder signatures at EMV-enabled terminals. The card brands have determined that signatures are no longer necessary to prevent fraud, due to the growth of EMV compliance and advancing technology like biometrics, fraud screening analytics, and data tokenization.
Although cardholder signatures are no longer required for security purposes, they can still serve an important purpose in other circumstances. For example, merchants who list return policies or terms and conditions on receipts may choose to keep signatures as proof of the customer’s compliance with the policy. Because of this, Cardknox will continue to support signatures at checkout.
You now have the option to disable signatures if you choose. If you are in need of assistance with this or have any other questions, please contact support@cardknox.com.
